Escazú derived from the indigenous word meaning ‘resting place’, is the capital city in the county within the province of San José, Costa Rica. The total population presently exceeds 40,000 and encompasses roughly 15 sq miles.  The city has an elevation of 1,100 meters above sea level and is located on the west side approximately 5 miles from the Capital of San Jose and 30 minutes from the Juan Santamaria International Airport.

It’s a mixed bag of commercial, residential, and agricultural located in several small villages within the Canton. The villages themselves are undergoing rapid demographic changes especially over the last decade and is home to the largest enclave of expatriates from the U.S.A., Canada and Europe. Several Embassies have their residences located in Escazú.

This area has developed into a very chic and upscale neighborhood offering one of the best Hospitals, Malls, five star Hotels, Office Towers, movie theatres, restaurants and upscale bars while incorporating scenic views of the Valley. This has resulted in high end priced real estate and has now become the most well known location in Costa Rica.

The climate is beautiful and mild all year round, and the tropical rainy season (locally called “winter”) lasts from April to November. The months of November and December frequently bring high winds.
